Remove and Install the Power Layer Interface Circuit Board for Frames 8...15

Replace the power module power layer interface circuit board with kit catalog number SK-RM-PLI1- F8. Two versions of the circuit board tray are released. Each version of the tray uses different screw sizes to secure the power layer interface circuit board to the tray. Circuit board trays and screw combinations for the power layer interface board include:
  • Part number PN-371633 contains five M3 x 20 mm slotted-Torx screws
  • Part number PN-417691 contains five M4 x 18 mm slotted-Torx screws
Follow these steps to remove and install the power layer interface circuit board.
  1. Review the product advisories in Before You Begin.
  2. Remove power from the system.
  3. Open the corresponding enclosure door.
  4. Remove the power module from the enclosure.
  5. Remove the circuit board tray from the power module.
  6. For the CTL and PDI (if used) fiber optic ports on the power layer interface board, open the transceiver latch and pull the transceiver out of the connector on the board. Retain the fiber optic transceivers for reuse.
    IMPORTANT: The end of the transceiver that connects to the inside of the fiber port contains dielectric grease. Do not touch the end of the transceiver.

    TIP: If the latch is obstructed and you cannot use your fingers to open it, use a small, screwdriver or other long, narrow tool to open the latch.
  7. Remove the five M3 x 20 mm or M4 x 18 mm slotted-Torx screws that secure the power layer interface circuit board to the standoffs on the circuit board tray and remove the circuit board. Retain the screws for reuse.
  8. IMPORTANT: The power layer interface circuit board replacement kit excludes screws. Therefore, all existing screws for this board must be reused. Verify the screw size that is supplied with your circuit board tray and apply the recommended torque during reinstallation.
  9. Slide the board to the right to disconnect the two 64-pin edge connectors and remove the circuit board.

  10. Remove the protective cover from connector J13 on the new power layer interface circuit board.
  11. IMPORTANT: If present, do not remove the protective cover from the fiber-optic port PDI on the power layer interface circuit board unless used at the time of installation.
  12. Install the power layer interface circuit board in the reverse order of removal.
  13. Connect the wire harness connector P13 to connector J13 on the power layer interface circuit board.
  14. If used, remove the protective cover from the PDI fiber optic port on the power layer interface circuit board.

    NOTE: The end of the transceiver that connects to the inside of the fiber port contains dielectric grease. Do not touch the end of the transceiver.
  15. Without bending the cable to a radius less than 50 mm (2 in.), fully insert the fiber-optic cable into the transceiver.

  16. Insert the transceiver and fiber-optic cable into the port on the board, until you hear an audible ‘click.’
