Clean and Apply Dielectric Grease to a Fiber Transceiver Edge Connector (XT)
If the dielectric grease on a transceiver edge connector contains debris or is removed to expose the edge connector before installation, you must thoroughly clean and reapply PolySi PST-576 nonsilicone, dielectric grease to the affected connector.
IMPORTANT:
Only PolySi PST-576 dielectric grease is approved for use on edge connectors of circuit boards with XT.
The grease applicator kit, catalog number SK-RM-GRAPP1, is available to reapply grease to edge connectors on fiber transceivers. See Dielectric Grease Applicator Kit.
Follow these steps to use the grease applicator kit to apply dielectric grease to a transceiver edge connector on a fiber transceiver.
- By using a lint-free alcohol wipe with 90% or higher alcohol content, remove any debris away from the transceiver edge connector.
- Before you apply grease, allow the edge connector to dry thoroughly.
- Open the grease tube and, if necessary, by using the pin on the side of the large applicator, puncture the seal on the end of the tube.
- Install the small grease applicator on the threaded tip of the tube.
- Press the tube until the small cavity of the applicator tip is filled completely with grease.
- TIP: The tip is full when grease reaches the end of the small cavity on the tip of the applicator. Do not over-fill the small cavity with grease.
- To apply dielectric grease, insert the edge-connector end of the transceiver into the applicator tip.
- TIP: The transceiver edge connector fits into the small, inner cavity with the grease, and the outer transceiver case fits into the outer cavity of the applicator.
- Remove the transceiver from the applicator.
- IMPORTANT: Take care not to touch the edge connector before insertion into the fiber-optic port.
- After use, remove the small grease applicator from the grease tube.
- Replace the cap on the grease tube.
- By using a clean cloth, wipe the remaining grease out of the applicator tip.
